Yurii Pikush
Yurii Pikush was born in 1998 in the city of Dnipro, Ukraine. He was trained as a mandolin player at the Dnipro Music Academy (2013–2017) and graduated from the National Music Academy of Ukraine with a Bachelor’s, then a Master's diploma in Composition (class of Prof. Oleksandr Kostin, 2017–2022; prof. Mykola Kovalinas, 2022–2023). He is a member of the National Composers Union of Ukraine.
Yurii Pikush participated in master classes of new music such as COURSE International Master Classes in Lviv (2019, 2020); consulted with composers such as Šimon Voseček, Tamara Friebel, Anna Korsun, Sławomir Wojciechowski, Sergej Maingardt, Etienne Haan, and others.
During the composition master classes within the Warsaw Autumn festival, Pikush took lessons with Yannis Kyriakides and Sky Macklay (Poland, 2023). He participated in the contemporary music projects of CMM Youth Music Center (Kyiv, 2023).
Yurii Pikush was a composer of the Muse Project by Vivier InterUniversitaire (Canada), National Music Academy of Ukraine (2023), and Transhumanism Multimedia Project (Kyiv, 2023).
Yurii’s works have been performed at international festivals of contemporary music such as 19. Tage der Neuen Musik Bamberg (Germany, 2023), Usedomer Musikfestival (Germany, 2023), Premieres of Season (Kyiv, Ukraine, 2024); Contrasts International Contemporary Music Festival (Lviv, Ukraine, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2023), Kharkiv Music Fest (2018, 2023), New Music in Ukraine (2018), and others.
Performers of Pikush’s works include the National Ensemble of Soloists Kyiv Camerata, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, the Kharkiv Music Fest Quartet, Ensemble Nostri Temporis (Ukraine), ensemble recherche (Germany), Ensemble Proton Bern (Switzerland), Kateryna Boichuk, Viktor Rekalo, and others.
Awards
2024 — Levko Revutskyi Prize of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.
2023 — Winner of the Second Myroslav Skoryk All-Ukrainian Composition Competition.
2021 — Recipient of the Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky Scholarship.
2020 — All-Ukrainian Borys Liatoshynskyi Composition Competition: laureate of the Walter Feldman Special Prize.
