Viktor Rekalo

Viktor Rekalo was born in Kharkiv, Ukraine. He graduated from the Kharkiv Specialized Music School and the Kharkiv National University of Arts. He improved his professional skills with Walter Deshpalj, Reinhard Latzko, Denis Severin, Natalia Gutman, Lukasz Frant, and Jörg Zwicker (baroque cello).


Rekalo is a prizewinner of international competitions in Germany, Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, and Ukraine; the scholarship holder of the International Association of Wagner Society Societies (2010), Ministry of Culture of Poland (2015), and Ministry of Culture of Lithuania (2023).


Viktor Rekalo зarticipated in international festivals such as Сontrasts (Lviv, Ukraine), Poznan Music Spring (Poznan, Poland), Musikprotokoll (Graz, Austria), AFEKT (Tallinn, Estonia), Jauna Muzika (Vilnius, Lithuania), and others.


From 2017 to 2021 Rekalo was a member of the Kyiv Soloists National Chamber Ensemble, Ukho Ensemble Kyiv, and Open Opera Ukraine baroque ensemble (Kyiv).


Since 2022, Viktor Rekalo has been a cellist of the Vilnius String Quartet (Lithuania).


Viktor Rekalo introduced himself as a composer in April 2022 when he performed his Suite Seven Simple Dawns for cello solo in Lviv Organ Hall. The Suite has since been performed many times by cellists around the world. Viktor’s other pieces for different ensembles were performed and recorded by Ukrainian musicians in Kyiv and Vilnius. Main part of his composer’s works is music for dancers. Viktor’s ballet D.I.M. (Home) premiered in Cologne and Kyiv in 2023 and is now part of the permanent repertoire of Insha Dance Company (Kyiv). Other Rekalo’s pieces for dance performances include EXTER.Live (Stefanie Noll, Kyiv, 2021), Trafalgar Square Vigil (Company E, London, 2023), Light in Darkness (Vladyslav Detiuchenko, Den Haag, 2023), and others.

Scholarship holder of the International Association of Wagner Societies (2010), Ministry of Culture of Poland (2015), and Ministry of Culture of Lithuania (2023).
