Albert Saprykin
Albert Saprykin is a Ukrainian composer, pianist, underground sound artist, and curator of contemporary classical music projects. His oeuvre consists of solo, chamber, orchestra, electronic, and electroacoustic music. Albert also performs contemporary music as a piano/keyboard player.
Albert Saprykin studied composition at the National Music Academy of Ukraine (classes of Levko Kolodub and Ihor Scherbakov; attended lectures by Alla Zagaykevych and Mykola Kovalinas) and Fryderyk Chopin University of Music (with Marcin Błażewicz, as a Gaude Polonia fellow), and piano at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (with Milana Chernyavska).
Saprykin is currently an MA student at the Freiburg University of Music with Prof. Alexander Grebtschenko.
Since 2015, Albert Saprykin has focused on advocating for the new music community. He co-founded and directed Kyiv Contemporary Music Days (2015–), curated concert and educational projects in Ukraine, Germany, Portugal, and Austria; ran music projects at the Ukrainian Institute (2018–2020) and contributed to state policy reforms at the State Agency of Ukraine for Arts and Art Education (2020–2022).
Albert Saprykin’s music has been performed by the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and National Ensemble of Soloists Kyiv Camerata, as well as by soloists Junya Makino, Orest Smovzh, Antonii Baryshevskyi, Sylvia Hinz, Olga Kulchynska, and Dmytro Pashynskyi in Austria, Germany, Japan, Lithuania, Poland, and Ukraine.
Awards
2022–2023 — Сomposer-in-residence with Ensemble KNM Berlin as a Weltoffenes Berlin program fellow (Berlin, Germany).
2021 — Composer-in-residence with clarinetist Nina Janssen-Deinzer (Nürnberg, Germany).
2018 — Composer-in-residence at Fryderyk Chopin University of Music as a Gaude Polonia program fellow (Warsaw, Poland).
2012 — 1st prize winner at international Dmytro Tiomkin piano improvisation competition (Kremenchuk, Ukraine).
