Serhii Vilka studied flute at Donetsk Musical College. He then graduated as a flutist and composer from the National Music Academy of Ukraine in Kyiv where he studied flute with Serhii Neugodnikov and composition with professor Yevhen Stankovych.
During and after graduation, Serhii performed as a guest musician with the Symphony Orchestra of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine, the National Ensemble of Soloists Kyiv Camerata, the Kyiv Chamber Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. As a soloist, he has performed with the Kyiv Soloists National Chamber Ensemble, the National Ensemble of Soloists Kyiv Camerata, the Symphony Orchestra of the National Radio Company of Ukraine, and the Chamber Orchestra of the National Music Academy of Ukraine.
From 2009 to 2011, Serhii Vilka was a flutist with Ensemble Nostri Temporis, a Ukrainian contemporary music ensemble, and in 2013, together with Andrii Merkhel and Vitalii Kyianytsia, he founded Sed Contra Ensemble, where he plays the flute and conducts. As a member of both ensembles, Serhii participated in almost all contemporary music festivals in Ukraine.
Serhii Vilka played more than 200 world and Ukrainian premieres of Ukrainian and international composers as a performer. Some of these works were composed especially for him. As a flutist, he took part at the International Ensemble Modern Academy during the Klangspuren Schwaz Tirol festival in 2011, collaborating with composer George Benjamin and conductor Franck Ollu. In 2019 Serhii participated in the European Workshop for Contemporary Music led by conductor Rüdiger Bohn during the 62nd edition of the Warsaw Autumn Festival.
