Serhiy Pilyutikov
Serhiy Pilyutikov (b. 1965, Uzin, Kyiv region) is a composer, cultural producer, and professor. Member of the National Union of Composers of Ukraine (1998) and the NUCU board (since 2005).
Pilyutikov graduated from Kharkiv University in 1987 majoring in history, and after working as a village history teacher for several years he entered the Kharkiv National Kotlyarevsky University of Arts, faculty of composition (class of Prof. Oleksandr Shchetynskyi), graduating in 1995. He then taught composition at the Kharkiv School of Music before moving to Kyiv in 1999.
Serhiy Pilyutikov is the founder and artistic director of the new music Ensemble Ricochet. He has been the director of the International Festival Music Forum of the Young (Kyiv, 2001–2007), a member of the organizing committee of the Kyiv Music Fest (since 2010), and the Director of the Department of Musical Production at the Ukrainian STB TV channel (since 2010).
Pilyutikov initiated and organized a course of public lectures “Contemporary Composers Techniques” (2005–2006); masterclasses with composers Bogusław Schaeffer (Poland), Helen Roe (UK), Robin De Raaff (The Netherlands), Vanessa Lann (USA) (2005–2007); a series of public lectures-interviews with composers Valentyn Sylvestrov (published as a book) and Oleksandr Shchetynskyi (2007). In 2008, Serhiy Pilyutikov gave a lecture on Ukrainian music at the Tokyo Conservatory.
The first public recognition of Pilyutikov’s composition came after Xenakis Ensemble performed his piece Voices of the Year at the Gaudeamus music week (1993, The Netherlands). Pilyutikov’s works have since been featured at international festivals such as Days of New Music (1998, Switzerland), Musika Nova (1999, Sofia, Bulgaria), New Music Festival (2000, Slovenia), Perspectives (2000, Armenia), Days of New Music (2000, Slovenia), Days of New Music in Zurich (1998, Switzerland), Ohrid Summer (2001, Macedonia), Encuentros (2002, Argentina), Internationales Beethovenfest (2001, Bonn, Germany), Musica nova (2007, Brazil), Days of New Music (2007, Belgium), Days of Ukrainian Music in Japan (2008, Tokyo); the Forum of Young Musicians (1993–2005, Kyiv), Kyiv May (1999), Kyiv Music Fest (1999–2016), Contrasts (1999–2016, Lviv), Two Days and Two Nights of New Music (1999–2016, Odesa), Premieres of the Season (1999–2007, Kyiv), and others.
Serhiy Pilyutikov’s works have been performed by Ensemble für neue Musik Zürich (Switzerland), Xenakis Ensemble (the Netherlands), Avalon Trio (Switzerland), Stockholm Saxophone Quartet (Sweden), the string quartet of the Tokyo Conservatory, Kyiv Sax Quartet, Cluster Ensemble (Lviv), and Ensemble Ricochet (Kyiv); Archi Chamber Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, Lviv National Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, Ukrainian Radio Symphony Orchestra, National Ensemble of Soloists Kyiv Camerata, Kyiv Chamber Orchestra, and others.
