Mykhailo Chedryk
Mykhailo Chedryk was born in Svalyava, Ukraine, in 1997.
Mykhailo studied at Uzhgorod Music College, specializing in musical theory, before joining the National Music Academy of Ukraine as a composer (BA and MA under the supervision of professor Igor Scherbakov) where he is currently working on his Ph.D. in music history under the supervision of acting associate professor Anna Hadetska.
Mykhailo’s professional journey includes serving as the project coordinator for the educational and concert platform of new music Kyiv Contemporary Music Days (2017 – now). He also worked as a music program manager at the Ukrainian Institute (2019–2023).
In December 2022 Mykhailo Chedryk was selected as a composer-in-residence with ensemble mosaik in Berlin for one year as a Weltoffenes Berlin program fellow.
As a composer, Chedryk consciously eschews drawing inspiration from external sources, preferring to delve into sound's essence. His work seeks to craft a sonic field that invites the audience to ponder: "What are your impressions of these structured, human-made sounds?" The title Sonare... encapsulates this guiding philosophy, emphasizing the act of sounding as a primary, introspective exploration.
Chedryk’s compositions aim to create rich, saturated, and tense sonic landscapes, utilizing a variety of extended techniques that mutually enhance one another, resulting in a nuanced and intricate palette of colors. These soundscapes function as explorations of both auditory and emotional realms.
Mykhailo Chedryk endeavors to find a balance between the intricate language of contemporary music and a sound result that remains perceivable and appreciable by a broader audience.
